Right after cataclysm launched, two co-workers discovered they held a common interest.
Before the end of the day they’d settled on a race, class, and server to play on. And a friendly bet, of course: Last to 90 buys lunch for a week.
After getting home that night, they both rolled worgen hunters on the same server. They set a goal: Level 20 and Running Wild before the end of the night.
And they reached it. Technically. At about 4 in the morning.
With 40 hour weeks and family obligations to face, they knew such leveling stints just wouldn’t be a possibility. So to keep the bet fair, they revised the terms. Same race, same class, same server, same timeframe: 15 hours a week.
The first co-worker played a couple hours each night on weekdays, with a bit more extra time on weekends. He hit the standard zones – Ashenvale, Tanaris, and the Badlands, and beyond. He leveled quickly through the new content, enjoying all the revamped quests, trading some good-humored ribbing over Skype.
Even at level 60 he trudged on. Through Outlands and Northrend, up to the brand new 80-90 zones where he leveled with far more enjoyment, planning ahead as he started gearing his hunter for dungeons.
By the time he hit 90, he’d already paid for a week’s worth of lunches with another week to spare.
With nearly identical play time, playing the same class, how did one hunter suddenly skyrocket to 90 while the other was still treading through Outlands?
